Penmans 1920s hang tag
"Penmans, by its endurance, offers a longitudinal look at the actions the firm made to
survive in changing markets. Founded by entrepreneurs, in 1868, the firm grew from a woolen
knitting mill in Paris, Ontario, to become the largest supplier of cotton and woolen knit goods,
especially hosiery and underwear, in Canada by the 1890s. Penmans continues today as a
company merchandising these goods, and other clothing, as a house brand of Wal-Mart, Canada,
Mississauga. In the intervening century the firm kept its prominence. The governance of Penmans
for the past one hundred and thirty years illustrates Canadian business conditions throughout the
nation’s history." Barbara Austin, Faculty of Business, Brock University.

Vintage Clothing Show
If you had to miss it or it just wasn't enough to satisfy that retail therapy urge, there's a another chance with a brand new show: Gadsden's Toronto Vintage Clothing Show being held at the Wychwood Art Barn coming up on Sunday April 10.
Mark your calendar!
This is a brand new venue. We were there snooping around last week during Gadsden's Old Book & Paper Show and we really like the room. The one drawback is the parking. Be warned, there's practically no on street parking so be wise and either use public transport, or car pool and use the two nearby Green P parking lots.
We'll see you there.
And then a week later is the Spring Toronto Vintage Costume Jewellery Club show at Leaside Gardens, Free Parking & Free Admission!
See you there too!

These boots are made for...
While doing some extra thrifting this week looking for fresh merch for the upcoming Vintage Clothing Shows picked up this pair of keepers for PZ. It's getting very hard to find stuff still made in the USA but the Lucchese's are.
The two Vintage Clothing shows are:
Saturday, March 26, 2011 the Toronto Vintage Clothing & Textile Show
Sunday April 10, 2011, Gadsden's Toronto Vintage Clothing Show
We'll be doing both shows with a different inventory for each.

The Borg
Today's Catch o' the Day: a men's winter coat from Winnipeg. Gabardine, double breasted with mouton collar, borg (faux sheepskin) lining and a buttoned half belt in back. Styled "the Stratoliner" presumably to cash in on the name value of the aircraft which went into production at Boeing in 1940.
Stetson also put out a line of hats called the Stratoliner.

This Lilly will be coming to the CAFTCAD show October 23, 2010. Just in time for, uh, Florida in winter. That's it. Florida in winter.
